Second Annual CertaPro Painters Marketing Case Competition at Simon

The 2nd Annual CertaPro Painters Business Case Competition that is being held on November 5, 2010 at the Simon Graduate School of Business gives MBA and MS students a unique opportunity to demonstrate their strategic marketing skills. This is a competition organized by the students in which participants apply their skill-set to solve complex real-world business problems for CertaPro Painters.

This year, the students were given a case packet containing a current business challenge of CertaPro Painters a week prior to the competition. The students will frame the problem, analyze the given data and present their solutions and recommendations to a mixed panel of judges from Simon School and CertaPro Painters on November 5th. The top three teams receive $5,000 in prize money between them. In addition, the winners get to travel to Puerto Rico in January 2011 where they attend the National CertaPro Painters Conference and enjoy the warm weather for some time before heading back to school.

Dean Mark Zupan and Steve Hearon, vice president of franchise development for CertaPro Painters agree about the mutual benefits that this competition offers. While students get to work on a real life business problem, CertaPro Painters gain from the benefits of a very reasonable “investment.”  Hearon also went on to say that the solutions and recommendations that CertaPro Painters received from last year’s competition are currently in use.

These competitions are a great experience and a good connect between classroom and real world problems. I participated in a corporate finance case competition last year and the learning was tremendous!
