Forbes’ ranking of MBA programs focuses on the return on investment graduates of the Class of 2006 received by attending business school. Forbes compared respondents’ earnings increase in the first five years after graduation to their opportunity cost (two years of forgone compensation, tuition and required fees). Simon improved in the key categories of total five-year MBA gain (the difference between the gain in earnings and the opportunity cost of earning the MBA which was $64,000 in 2011 versus $27,000 in 2009) and five-year MBA gain as a percentage of expenses (44 percent in 2011 versus 17 percent in 2009). Simon also decreased the number of years to payback (3.6 years in 2011 versus 4.4 years in 2009). The magazine surveyed 16,000 alumni from more than 100 business schools. “We already have made pivotal changes in our Career Management Center and other changes are in the works (based on, among other things, feedback provided by our students and alumni) in terms of curriculum, admissions, and marketing that should stand our School and its graduates in good stead over the years to come,” says Dean Mark Zupan. “Our ultimate goal and best measure of our efforts is the success of our graduates. That is at the heart of what we do and will serve as a beacon for our efforts going forward.”
